What it does, and why it matters

A UK household of four bins about £1,000 of food a year. WRAP puts the national figure at 4.4 million tonnes of edible food, worth £17 billion. Stockd Up tells you what you have and what to eat first, so less of it gets thrown out.

Food goes off faster once you open it. The date on the pack is for an unopened pack. Open it and you have less time. Cream is a few days. A jar of sauce is a week or two. The pack never tells you this. Stockd Up works it out from Food Standards Agency (FSA) guidance and shows you whichever date runs out first.

Frozen food does not keep as long as people think, and it depends on your freezer. Every UK freezer has a star rating from one to four, on the door or in the manual. One star keeps food about a week. Four stars keeps it months. Stockd Up asks which one you have and gives you dates to match, so it never tells you beef is fine for a year when your freezer cannot do that.

It covers the whole house. Not just the fridge. The freezer, the cupboards, the medicine cabinet, the garage and the shed.

Filling it in does not take an evening. Scan barcodes one after another without stopping and a whole shelf goes in in a couple of minutes.

Nothing leaves your phone. There is no account and no company server holding your shopping. It backs up to your own iCloud.

Blind and partially sighted people can use it

Every button and every text box says what it is out loud, so the app can be used start to finish with VoiceOver and nothing else.

Turn Reduce Motion on and the app stops moving. That includes the screen changes and the pop-up trays, which iOS does not switch off for you, so each one was done by hand. Switch the settings off again and the app looks exactly as it did.

Boilerplate

Copy this straight into a piece if it helps.

Stockd Up is a household stock app for iPhone. It keeps track of what a home has in across the fridge, the freezer, the cupboards, the medicine cabinet, the garage and the shed, and says what needs using before it is thrown away. It runs two dates on every item: the one printed on the pack, and the shorter one that starts the moment the pack is opened. Its guidance is drawn from Food Standards Agency and WRAP research and credited on screen. Nothing a household enters leaves their own phone and their own iCloud. Stockd Up launches in the United Kingdom on 15 October 2026 and is built by Novaro Digital Labs Ltd, an independent studio in the UK.

A note on the guidance

Dates, opened-item windows and freezer durations are general guidelines only, not a guarantee of food safety. Always use your own judgement and check items before consuming. If in doubt, throw it out.
